Climate Council establishment

The Purves Environmental Fund (PEF) supported the establishment of Climate Council and contributed to its core funds during the first four years of its operations. The Climate Council is an independent, crowd-funded organisation providing quality information on climate change to the Australian public. The Council has been playing a key role in shifting the public discourse forward from a debate about whether or not climate change is real to what we can do about it.

The PEF has also funded two core projects by the Climate Council in its respective launch year, the Climate Media Centre, and the Cities Power Partnership. The Climate Media Centre functions as a media relations hub by connecting journalists with a wide variety of spokespeople and case studies on climate change to provide them with timely and relevant commentary on the issues. The Centre also provides training, ongoing support, and coaching to spokespeople who have an important story to tell about climate change impacts or solutions.

The Cities Power Partnership works with local governments across Australia to celebrate and rapidly accelerate cities and towns transition to a renewable energy future. It engages with member council by supporting it to select its own emission reduction and clean energy pledges, and working with it towards achieving the goals.
